Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — Authorities in Jalisco are investigating the death of an American man whose body was discovered inside his Puerto Vallarta condominium last week, prompting concern within the city’s expatriate community.

Patrick Henry Murray, 58, was found dead Friday, September 19, at the D’esire building on Constitución Street in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, according to local reports. Murray was located around 3:25 p.m. after a friend, worried when he failed to respond to daily check-ins, entered the apartment and contacted emergency services. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that investigative police and forensic specialists conducted on-site inspections before transferring the body to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. As of Monday, September 22, 2025, officials have not released a statement regarding the cause of death.

Friends of Murray have retraced his steps in the hours leading up to his death. On Thursday evening, Murray was seen in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, a lively district popular with both tourists and expatriates. Business owners confirmed he entered a local bar around 10:50 p.m.

Witnesses told friends that three men arrived at the establishment roughly an hour later. One of the men approached Murray, and the two left together at approximately 12:12 a.m. The other two men departed minutes afterward.
